Sometimes… you’ve just had enough (and that’s okay)
One of my favorite parts of doing hair is supporting women through seasons of change—especially the ones that feel big, emotional, or long overdue.
My client is moving to another country and decided she wants to embrace her natural sparkles and grow them out. And honestly? I love that for her.
Because choosing to stop fighting your grey doesn’t mean “giving up.”
It means choosing ease. It means choosing you.
What happened before grey blending
She originally started with highlights, but the blonde ended up being too contrasting against her natural grey. Not only did it look harsher at the root as it grew in, but her hair also started feeling more compromised than she wanted.
So when she started seeing me, our goal became simple:
✅ Make the grow-out look intentional
✅ Blend the root softly
✅ Protect the health of the hair
✅ Avoid that “weird awkward phase”

What I’ve been doing to create a smooth transition
Instead of adding more brightness, we did the opposite.
I’ve been:
Toning down the ends (so they don’t stay too light or brassy)
Adding a cool, ashy tone to neutralize warmth
Keeping everything softer and more blended so the natural grey can grow in without a strong “line”
The key? Those ends.
When the ends are kept cool/ashy, the grey coming in at the root looks more like a natural highlight—not a sharp contrast.
What to expect if you’re growing out your sparkles
This is important: grey blending is a process, not a one-and-done.
Because toner is designed to fade gradually, most clients come back about every 6 weeks for a refresh while we’re in the transition phase.
That’s what makes it so forgiving:
No harsh permanent line
No “root panic”
Just a soft fade that keeps things looking intentional
And over time, your natural grey grows out more and more… without the awkwardness.
If you’re considering it…
If you’ve been thinking, “I’m tired of keeping up with this,” I want you to know you’re not alone. And there’s a way to grow it out that still looks polished, beautiful, and like YOU.
If you’re ready to start your grey blending journey and you are in Denver, I’d love to help you create a plan that fits your lifestyle, your maintenance comfort level, and your hair’s health.
